5 injured as stairway in golf club collapses

At Kent & Surrey Golf Club

Five people have been hurt when an outside concrete staircase collapsed at a golf club in Kent. They included two elderly women and an eight–year-old boy.

Emergency services were called to The Kent and Surrey Golf and Country Club in Edenbridge yesterday afternoon. The incident happened during an event organised by the local astronomers organisation. People were gathering to look at the sun through a solar telescope.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "Four fire engines were initially deployed, but further updates from the scene revealed no persons trapped, so one fire engine was sent in support of South East Coast Ambulance Service."
