$1 million pay day for Jordan Spieth

Before he even tees off at Australian Open

Jordan Spieth will be defending his Australian Open title this week, and will be enjoying a $1 million payday before he even tees off.

Jordan Spieth is reportedly getting this massive appearance fee, which is bigger than the event’s total purse of $944,000, to guarantee strong attendances and sell through their corporate hospitality packages.

“From my perspective, Jordan is the biggest man in world golf,” chief executive Stephen Pitt told Reuters.

”He’s an all around package on the course and beyond that he’s likeable.

"We’ve basically sold out of corporate hospitality and Jordan’s announcement really helped that, and pre-sales of tickets are much more advanced of last year.”

It looks like everyone’s a winner then, and it's a real demonstration of the pulling power of an Open winner with such wide spread appeal.
