Rory McIlroy named wealthiest UK Sports star

Under the age of 30 by Sunday Times Rich List

It might have been a disappointing year for Rory McIlroy out on the course last year, but that did not seem to interfere much with his earning power, as the 29-year-old from Northern Ireland has still been named the wealthiest sports person under the age of 30 by the Sunday Times Rich list.

Last year saw his net worth grow by £28 million to £110 million, comfortably beating Andy Murray, who could only muster £83 million. Without a single victory in 2017, and a long lay off with a rib injury, the highlight for his year must have been his 4th place at The Open - oh, and his spectacular wedding in Ireland, which probably put a slight dent into overall wealth.

Golf fan and Real Madrid star, Gareth Bale, came in third with £74 million, with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero fourth with £48 million.

The full Rich List, now in its 30th year, will be published tomorrow in the Sunday Times.
