Members at Winged Foot GC oppose portrait of Donald Trump

For fear of driving division in their exclusive club

Winged Foot Golf Club in Westchester is one of the elite WASP clubs in America. But its members are refusing to allow a portrait of the POTUS to be hung in the clubhouse.

Established in 1921, the 800 member Winged Foot is a strictly by invitation only club, with a definite no riff raff policy, and joining fees in the region of $200,000.

Nevertheless, Donald Trump did manage to become a member, but now many of his fellow members are refusing to allow a portrait of the POTUS to be hung in the clubhouse.

According to one insider: “Trump has been a member since 1969, and there is a big push to honor him at the club. We should be proud that the president of the United States is a member of Winged Foot: It is prestigious to have him here. But the senior club management has refused to put up a Trump portrait.”

It is thought that the decision has been taken to avoid creating a rift with its membership, which include leading New York bankers and lawyers, or to avoid putting off other charities or organizations that could want to hold events there.

There is a further political dimension as the insider confirmed: “It seems the leaders of Winged Foot do not want to rock the boat and politicize the club, given that the US Open will be at Winged Foot in 2020.”

What’s more, it looks like they are trying to do a disappearing act on the POTUS.

“Each member has a locker with their name on it, but Mr. Trump’s name has been mysteriously taken down. Some members are outraged because there seems to be no justification, apart from, perhaps, too many people were trying to take selfies at Trump’s locker, or they simply don’t want to advertise his membership.”
