Who to back at the BMW PGA Championship

Some great tips this week

Big time golf finally hits the UK this week with the BMW PGA Championship is at Wentworth. With some big names opting to stay away or out through injury, it has opened up the betting market immensely. Some bookies are that excited that golf has come home that they paying up to 7 places over the week. So best shop around as it can affect the odds. Last week I tipped Russell Knox who came pretty close as did some others. Three in the top 10 is not a bad week. So let’s see if I can do it again.

Who to back at the BMW PGA Championship
Francesco Molinari 20/1 (PaddyPower)

When it comes to consistency at Wentworth look no further than Molinari. In the past three years, he's been in the top ten. The thing is he keeps getting better at Wentworth. T-9th in 2013, T-7 in 2014 and solo fifth in 2015. He won’t be scared of this course at all. Furthermore, he has been playing well on the PGA Tour finishing in a tie for 7th at the Players. Certainly one to watch that’s for sure.

Who to back at the BMW PGA Championship
Byeong-Hun An 28/1 (Coral)

When he won at Wentworth last year he did so in style. To win by a six shot margin in your rookie year was more than impressive. He simply destroyed the course. We should expect something similar. In his second season, he is continuing where he left off after claiming the European Tour’s rookie of the year. Three top-five finishes on the European and PGA Tours has shown that last year’s victory was no one off.

Who to back at the BMW PGA Championship
Rafa Cabrera-Bello 28/1 (Coral)

Cabrera-Bello is having a sensational season. He has made every cut on the European Tour this season and only once has he failed to finish in the Top 20. A strong showing at the Masters and World Matchplay has cemented his position in the Ryder Cup standings. Was playing well at the Irish Open until a series of delays derailed his challenge yet still managed to finish in the top 10. He starts as one of the strong favourites and rightly so.

Who to back at the BMW PGA Championship
Bradley Dredge 40/1 (William Hill)

As Bradley Dredge finished in a tie for second place at the Irish Open it would be all too easy to suggest that it was a one-off performance. The truth is that Dredge is rising up the rankings nicely. Like Cabrera-Bello, Dredge is yet to miss a cut this season with five top 20 finishes and three top 10’s. The Welshman is getting close to the Ryder Cup places and will be looking to continue his fine run of form. Excellent price for an excellent, yet underrated, player.

Who to back at the BMW PGA Championship
Thomas Bjorn 150/1 (Betfred)

If you are looking for massive odds, and a player who could produce a shock, then Thomas Bjorn could be your man. Experience is the key for the Dane here at Wentworth and previous results could make him a very good outside bet. T-3 in 2014 and T-11 in 2015 makes him a fantastic Each Way shout.
