Golf Spiv calls the KPMG PGA Championship

As it's major week for the women's game

It’s major week for the Women’s game as the KPMG PGA Championship hits Olympia Fields. A lot has happened on the LPGA from Lexi Thompson’s shock penalty at the ANA Inspiration to Lydia Ko losing her World Number One place to Ariya Jutanugarn who then swiftly lost it to So Yeon Ryu one week later. The competition will certainly be fierce as the second major takes place this week.

The bookmakers have Lexi Thompson as the favourite for this one but there is plenty of excellent value for outright winners and Each Way bets. Here is who the Spiv has his money on this week.

So Yeon Ryu: 12/1 (Ladbrokes)

From her 11 events this year Ryu has already won one Major. Add nine top 10 finishes and a victory last week to the mix and it is clear to see why she has just become the World Number One. Despite this, she is not the favourite going into this one. You will be hard pushed to find better odds than this but one thing is for certain...Ryu will be a contender.

Brooke Henderson 33/1 (StanJames)

Last year’s champion will be aiming to build on her success Meijer LPGA Classic where she ended a dry run with victory. Despite only having one victory so far this year, Henderson has regularly been in contention. On her day she can sweep the field to one side. Great odds for a great player.

Michelle Wie 35/1 (BetFred)

Wie has really changed things around for the better. There was a time when people questioned her ability but she has proved the doubter wrong this year. Four top five finishes in her last five events have shown that the turnaround is complete. She is now looking like the complete package. Great E/W.

Cristie Kerr 40/1 (Ladbrokes)

Kerr last won this event in 2010 and has five top 10 finishes this season including her victory at the LOTTE Championship. Experience is the key with Kerr as she seems to be able to adapt to any course. With your winnings, you can even buy some of her wine that she makes. A top quality player who can produce great results.

Brittany Lincicome 140/1 (Bet365)

The price alone was enough to interest me here. It’s a truly amazing price for a great player. A winner on the tour this season at the but can be a little unpredictable. This is what explains the price but on her day she can beat the best out there. At 140/1 she is well worth a look.
