Trendy Selects: Lyle and Scott

It's the return of the Gold Eagle!!!

Golf Punk fashion guru Ian McLeod made sure that Lyle & Scott was well and truly on our radar when it launched exclusively on TRENDYGOLF.com recently.

What do you do when you find yourself in a world of technically driven sportswear when you’re a heritage brand originating in woolen underwear? You give yourself a makeover is what! And that’s exactly what Scottish heritage brand Lyle & Scott have done, fusing a whopping 141 year heritage with technical, performance golf wear for AW15.

This is a pivotal time for Lyle & Scott, what I love about the brand is that it wasn’t afraid to take a long hard look in the mirror and make some serious changes. They recognised a need to move with the times in order to appeal to the modern golfer and really took the time to identify their key consumers, tailoring a collection accordingly which is made up of three very strong capsules.

This is good, clean, technical sportswear which keeps the brands heritage central to the collection giving it a unique edge against the younger brands. The range includes fully technical polos, jumpers, mid-layers and waterproofs with a strong focus on fabric – each garment comes with wicking, anti bac. and 4-way stretch as standard.

The iconic golden eagle first landed on the fairways in the 70s and was adorned by some of the world’s greatest golfers including Greg Norman and Gary Player. We’ve seen the eagle appear in a variety of colours over the years but gold has always been at the heart and AW15 sees the golden eagle returning to the golf range, which Lyle & Scott tells us is a symbol not only of their commitment to performance and quality but also the mark of a new dawn.

So let’s get down to detail…

The range itself comprises three elements, Core Performance, All Weather and an Archive Capsule.

Core performance focuses on your everyday pieces which can be worn regardless of season - the key words here being fashion, form and function. Polos, jumpers and mid layers in a selection of colours come partnered with an impressive selection of shorts and trousers.

The all-weather range has been developed considering ultimate performance throughout the development process. Features include interior linings, sealed tapes and adjustable cuffs. Considering the recent weather, we hope it comes with an inflatable life boat in the top pocket.

Finally comes the archive capsule, something which gives Lyle & Scott the upper hand over these modern day brands. The capsule fuses the brands 141 year heritage with performance golf wear. An engineered stripe design provides a modern sporty edge in a selection of contemporary colours whilst a Prince of Wales check brings a classic look to the line.

Ergonomic styled panelling provides a contrast of style and texture, maximising comfort and creating a flattering aesthetic. The brands Scottish roots are clear with a contemporary argyle pattern featuring on a selection of polos and jumpers.

The three capsules are echoed in a brand new women’s range which runs alongside the men’s. A menswear brand doing womenswear? Do not fear, the range is designed by women, for women, and the fits have all been extensively researched to guarantee ultimate comfort and performance. Bravo.
