The Sunday Driver (Shaft): Paderson KINETIXx IRMT

Powering your driver differently

Every Sunday we try and bring you a driver you may not have heard of. This week though we thought we’d kick off with a driver shaft. We’ve all seen Aldilas and Mitsubishis, Speeders and Dynamic Golds. But Paderson? These guys you probably haven’t heard of, but you will.

Kinetic Energy. The Kinetic energy of an object is the energy that it possesses due to its motion. Paderson’ KINETIXx IRMT line is designed to transfer more of that energy to the ball than any other shaft on the market manages. Shafts are often known as the engine of your golf clubs, none more so than in a driver, the club we all want tuned for maximum performance. Think of the correctly fitted Paderson shaft being like adding a turbocharger to your car engine, while getting the tracking done at the same time so your car drives straighter.

But Paderson would never say this themselves, they’re a company that prides themselves on their technology, not their marketing or sales pitch. Go to their website if you want a science lesson on golf shafts, they aren’t scared to go into detail! For years they have produced shafts for other people, but it’s only now that they are going out on their own to push their own name.

So why is now the time to do that? Essentially it comes down to the way they produce their shafts. Most graphite shafts are made by rolling sheets of carbon fibre. Paderson’s are constructed by a combination of winding and rolling, as well as weaving in different materials for added performance. Kevlar is used in many shafts, known for it’s strength, while nickel fibres are used in some of the other models. The technology that goes into the shaft is visible. They look like nothing else on the market with their woven finish. Paderson can produce shafts that other manufacturers just aren’t able to.

But do they work? Well if the Long Drive championships was anything to go by they do. They were runners up in the main final, as well as winners of the Super Senior Division, and had two of the last four competitors using their products. The shafts were in play on the PGA Tour last season, and the low amateur at the Open was using them. They aren't pushing onto tour heavily, but they are slowly growing their presence.

We’ve hit the driver shaft and it felt great, although we need to do more testing. But we’ve heard amazing things about the iron shafts, weighing similar weights to steel shafts, but with much better feel and performance. This is a company to keep an eye on, in a market where many manufacturers are hard to differentiate between one another, Paterson are producing products no one else is capable of.
