Bridgestone Golf UK R.I.P.

Golf ball giant pulling out of the UK

In a surprising announcement, Bridgestone Golf have decided to close their UK and Ireland business. In operation for three years, Bridgestone had been growing the UK business, but obviously not enough.

Bridgestone Japan have laid the blame on “prevailing market conditions, currency fluctuations and the outlook for long term sales.”

“Despite having lifted market share in the ball sector in the last three years, it has been determined that any future investment was unsustainable. We can only apologise to our loyal customers for any inconvenience that this unfortunate situation may cause and thank them for their support for the Bridgestone Golf brand,” said UK Managing Director, Steve Kettlewell.

This is all with Bridgestone increasing their ball market share in the UK over last three years!

While speculation on our part, we don’t believe this will be the end of Bridgestone golf balls in the UK. For a brand of this size and quality of product, we’d be very surprised if a distributor doesn't come in to import the brand in to the UK. Not only are their golf balls excellent, and we feel they did a great job with their ball fitting campaign, their forged irons were some of the best bits of under the radar equipment out there.
