USA cruise to Walker Cup win over GB& Ireland

Away wins still as rare as a very rare thing...

Ouch. 19-7. That's a landslide... USA have won back the Walker Cup and deservedly so at the Los Angeles Country Club.

Stars of tomorrow. USA players enjoy the moment...

The match was all square at 2-2 after Saturday's morning foursomes which the USA are generally not great at, but the home side took complete control in the afternoon's singles to open an 8-4 lead.

They then won Sunday's foursomes 3-1 (I thought you said they were no good at foursomes?! – Ed) and the final singles matches 8-2 to secure a comprehensive victory.

That sinking feeling. If only they could turn back the clock...

GB & Ireland won the 2015 event at Lytham but they were no match for the Americans in Los Angeles.

David Boote was the only British player to win a singles match on Sunday, while Robert MacIntyre and Scott Gregory both halved their matches.

Home teams have won 11 of the past 13 Walker Cups, with GB's last win in America in 2001. They're all going to have to get over this apparent home sickness sooner rather than later.
