Golf course upgrade enhances royal experience at Mougins

Already regarded among the premier golf venues in France, Royal Mougins Golf Resort has taken its golfing experience to new heights after implementing a comprehensive upgrade of the bunkers and irrigation system on its award-winning championship course.

Members and guests can enjoy an improved overall playing experience when they visit the resort - which was voted ‘France's Best Golf Hotel' at the World Golf Awards in 2016 and 2017 - from this spring after carrying out a major maintenance programme over the last three years.

As part of the significant six-figure upgrade, Royal Mougins' team of greenkeepers renovated and relined all the bunkers on its 18-hole course, which was designed by world-renowned architect Robert von Hagge.

In addition, a state-of-the-art irrigation system has been installed over the winter to improve the all-year-round condition of the course, the terrain on some holes have been reshaped to help playability and the driving range has been upgraded - including the installation of nine new target greens.

Jurgen Wondergem, general manager at Royal Mougins Golf Resort, said: "Situated at the heart of the French Riviera, Royal Mougins enjoys one of the most privileged golf locations in Europe and the improvements that we have made will further enhance the resort's all-round appeal to both our members and guests.

"We're excited about the improvements that we have made to the bunkers and irrigation system, while the upgrade of the driving range will mean that we have practice facilities to rival any in the region. We're looking forward to another memorable season and can't wait for people to see what we've done.

"The condition and presentation of bunkers plays a huge part in the overall impression that any golf course creates when it is played, and we believe the improvements that are being made will greatly enhance the golfing experience that the resort offers all year round."

Located just four miles from the glamourous and internationally-famous resort of Cannes, Royal Mougins is the French Riviera's only golf resort and has quickly established itself as one of France's elite golfing venues, helping to set the standard for European golf resorts thanks to the quality of its course, the pristine nature of its setting, and its top-of-the range services.

Laid out in a wooded vale, Royal Mougins' 18-hole championship course was designed by world-famous architect Robert Von Hagge and winds its way around scenic wooded vales, rivers and lakes - several with picturesque, free-flowing waterfalls.

The resort also features the Prime Golf Academy - with a par-three course and performance studio,  an exclusive four-star hotel with 29 designer suites, conference facilities, a Mediterranean restaurant ‘La Terrasse du 18'  and a 450m2 Royal Spa and fitness centre, situated in an authentic 19th-century stone-walled country house, and a real estate agency.

And Royal Mougins' prime location provides guests with the opportunity to explore the many cultural and gastronomic delights of the historic nearby village of Mougins. Just 20 minutes from Nice airport, the town is overflowing with an array of internationally-acclaimed art galleries, museums and Michelin-star restaurants, which are home to some of France's greatest chefs.
