Assoufid Golf Club continues to the set the standard in Morocco

The burgeoning global reputation of award-winning Assoufid Golf Club, situated close to the vibrant North African city of Marrakech, continues to build as it is once again recognised as the finest golf experience in Morocco.

Since opening in 2014, this exciting development, that sits against the dramatic backdrop of North Africa’s snow-capped Atlas Mountains, has received a host of important awards and a wealth of critical acclaim from international golf visitors.

Having been announced as ‘Morocco’s Best Golf Course’ at the recent 2018 World Golf Awards, further reinforces its position as one of the most decorated venues in the African region, having previously collected six similar accolades, including ‘Africa’s Best Golf Course’ in 2016 and 2017.

Assoufid Golf Club benefits from an inspiring desert-style design set on an undulating 222-hectare development, which attractively contrasts against many of Marrakech’s other golf courses occupying flat landscapes.

Designed by Scottish PGA professional and former European Tour professional, Niall Cameron, the Par 72 layout, featuring cacti, palm and olive trees, is situated just 20-minutes from the old town (medina) – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and just 10-minutes from the international airport.

Guy Maxwell, Golf Director at Assoufid Golf Club, said: “Our objective since opening has always been to deliver a customer experience matched to some of the great golf clubs and resorts of the world. It is testament to the hard work of the whole team here at Assoufid, that our product continues to win prestigious awards and strong visitor plaudits.”

As the masterplan for the wider development continues, Assoufid Golf Club will be enhanced by the construction of a 5-star hotel, luxury residences and retail components to serve its guests and residents.

In a further boost to the continued development of Marrakech as an international golf destination, the city was recently announced as host venue for next year’s International Golf Travel Market (IGTM), the world’s premier global event for golf tourism suppliers, buyers and media, that will be staged October 14-17.

Marrakech, famed for its souks, world-class cuisine and clubs, welcomed over two million tourists last year and now boasts 13 golf courses.

Alongside its exciting golf proposition, the city’s must-visit sites include the Djemaa el Fna Square, Bahia Palace, Koutoubia Tower and the Saadian Tombs.
