Golfers flock to Tandridge Golf Club

as memberships soar across the south east

The long-term future looks bright for Tandridge Golf Club with the historic Surrey venue reporting a huge rise in demand for memberships since golf resumed after the Covid-19 lockdown. It is a welcome turnaround for the club featured by GolfPunk last year under its 'You Little Beauty' banner.

The prestigious club, in Oxted, has joined the growing list of UK golf venues who have seen memberships soar this summer, with numbers now at a level that club officials were forecasting to reach in 2024.
Under the leadership of new general manager Luke Edgcumbe, Tandridge has experienced a major increase in applications across all its membership categories, with the number received in the last three months more than it would normally expect to receive for a whole year.
In addition to receiving 30 full membership applications, the private members’ club has taken on 16 new junior members and added another 10 players to its popular academy membership programme, which offers 10 individual lessons of 40 minutes each, six one-hour group lessons, and unlimited free use of the driving range with balls.

The recent influx of new members means that the academy is now full but Tandridge is still accepting applications, with spaces becoming available on a weekly basis as people upgrade from an academy to full membership.
Edgcumbe, who left Royal Mid-Surrey to take up his new position this summer, said: “After everything that has happened this year, golf has provided one of the few beacons of light, and I’m thrilled that so many people are interested in joining this fantastic, forward-thinking, private members’ club.
“Tandridge is a course steeped in history and tradition and has so much to offer to players of all ages and abilities. The most encouraging thing about the number of membership enquries that we have received is that a lot has come from younger people who are relatively new to golf, which bodes well for the long-term future of both the club and the game.”

Set in the heart of the Surrey countryside, the charming Tandridge course is a Harry Colt classic and offers magnificent views of the Surrey North Downs and the High Weald, with the front nine running along relatively gentle land and the back nine sited in more rolling and dramatic terrain. Its clubhouse restaurant is also renowned across the south of England for its superb traditional British fayre.
Memberships continue to be in high demand since the easing of the lockdown restrictions but applications for all membership categories are still being invited. For more information, please email general manager Luke Edgcumbe at gm@tandridgegolfclub.com .
