Portugal Masters Day 4

The Wrap

The sweet taste of victory for Andy Sullivan

Andy Sullivan got over the line by some distance to claim his third European Tour titles this season – the Portugal Masters, the Joburg and the South African Open. His five shot lead coming into the final day proved to be too much, and he went on to extend his lead to nine shots by shooting a 66.

Sullivan ended the tournament with at a massive 23 under, which trampled all over last years record winning margin three shot victory by Alexander Levy. He becomes the fifth wire-to-wire winner of the season, but the first to claim three victories. He’s also now broken into the top 50 of the World Rankings. This season he has played in 23 events and won three after not claiming a single victory in his first 84 starts on the European Tour.

He started his round with two solid pars, and then left himself a tricky six-footer on the third, which he duly nailed to take his lead to six shots. No one was going to get anywhere near him today.

His playing partner Chris Wood finished second with a three under 68, one shot ahead of Trevor Fisher Junior and Anthony Wall, Eduardo De La Riva.

But there was really only one player in this tournament, and that was Andy Sullivan with his totally emphatic victory.
