PGA Tour Pros love Donald Trump

Rest of world in shock...

A few years ago, I played at the splendid Ballybunnion golf course on the west coast of Ireland. There's a statue of Bill Clinton there, commemorating a golfing visit that he and Hilary madr. It's situated outside the local cop shop for some reason.

Anyway, I was playing the course and having a great time when we got to the 11th tee. My caddie told me a story about the Clintons' visit that happened on this very tee.

"I was caddying for Hilary," said the caddie. "She asked me for the line of her tee shot. I said 'Just aim for the white house in the distance there'. 'I certainly am' she replied."

Well, she's got the White House in her sights now, but a Sports Illustrated poll has revealed that players on the PGA Tours are nailing their flags firmly to Donald Trump's mast.

SI's anonymous poll of 150 PGA Tour players made the staggering discovery that wealthy golfers are more interested in putting tax concessions first and the rest of the country last...

You'd be safe to assume that most tour pros vote Republican, what with all the threat of the Democrats trying to provide a decent health service at tax payers' expense and everything. You might not, however, have assumed that the women of the LPGA have, on the whole, an intense dislike of Democrat candidate Hilary Clinton.

These findings, and more, come from Sports Illustrated’s annual anonymous tour pro survey published on Tuesday, where golfers can say what they really think without the threat of being pilloried by those who disagree.

44%

The amount of LPGA Tour players who said they will not be voting for Hillary Clinton in the presidential election, against 33% who will be, and 23% who gave no response. One player went as far to venture “Absolutely fucking not,” when asked if they would vote for Clinton.

Maybe not, Hilary...

Even when the Democrats were given an open goal of a question, players could not bring themselves to endorse Hilary Clinton...

...56%

The amount of PGA players who said no to this question: “If Hilary Clinton could guarantee to cut your taxes in half and the Republican candidate would keep them the same, would you vote for her?”

74%

The amount of players on the Champions Tour who said the same. “I wouldn’t vote for [Clinton] if she were the last person on Earth,” said one player.

67%

The amount of players on the women’s tour said that the LPGA should hold tournaments on courses owned by Donald Trump.

45%

The amount of players on the PGA Tour who didn’t think the WGC-Cadillac should be moved from the Trump National Doral resort in Miami because of the Republican front runner's’s controversial – nay, offensive – positions on women, immigration and race. “No,” said one player. “I love that golf course.”

88%

The amount of Champions Tour players who said the same as above.

34%

The amount of Champions Tour players who are supporting Trump in the Republican primaries, 22% are undecided, 12% are going for Kasich, and 10% will be disappointed now Ted Cruz has suspended his campaign. Only 22% of Champions Tour players answered “none”, while one player said he’d be voting for “anyone who can beat a Democrat.”

So there we have it. Proof, if nothing else, that people really do get more right wing as they get older. And wealthier.
