Golf and gastronomy on the menu

On the Costa Brava

With so many top-quality golf courses on the menu in the Costa Brava, there is already plenty to whet the appetite of any golfer.

But when the golf course makes way for the main course and your mind switches from pars to paella, one of the most unspoilt stretches of coast in Europe can also offer the very finest dining experience.

No less than 19 Michelin stars have been awarded to 15 restaurants in Costa Brava, after the latest - Castell de Peralada - joined the elite ranks recently as it won its first star just a year and a half after opening its doors.

Castell de Peralada chef Xavier Sagristà has overseen a contemporary approach to celebrated Empordà cuisine which reinterprets culinary tradition with avant-garde themes. This premium gourmet restaurant has several interior dining rooms inside the castle and a terrace that opens to the lake and provides stunning views of the garden.

Sagristà said: "We are extremely grateful for this award, for us it is an award for a job well done and we know that it wouldn't have been possible without the Castillo team. We will continue to fight to maintain and improve the quality of our cuisine and our dining service."

Michelin stars have become a hallmark of fine dining and are the most the most recognised and influential culinary rating system in Europe with anonymous reviewers focusing on the quality, creativity and skill of the food.

El Celler de Can Roca in Girona has three stars to its name but any restaurant with Michelin recognition has reached extraordinary standards. Just as those lush fairways and stunning views await you on Costa Brava's golf courses, golfers who love their food will be delighted to know there is just as much to enjoy after the round.

Jaume Marin, marketing director for the Costa Brava Tourist Board, said: "As well as our outstanding golf courses, the Costa Brava is Michelin-star territory with so many unforgettable dining experiences on offer throughout our region.

"It adds another exciting dimension to further tempt anyone considering a golf break with us in 2018 and beyond."
