The golfing world has lost one of it’s greatest ever characters. Brian Barnes sadly passed away at the age of 74 on Monday after a brief fight with cancer. A larger than life character Barnes will always be remembered as the man who beat Jack Nicklaus twice in one day at Laurel Canyon in 1975 Ryder Cup. The Ryder Cup featured two singles sessions in those days.

When Jack Nicklaus picked up his sixth Green Jacket and record eighteenth major win at Augusta in 1986 he had a MacGregor Tommy Armour 945W Driver in his bag. The persimmon driver was the same weapon that helped him to victory at the 1978 British Open, 1980 US Open and 1980 PGA Championship.

Ok we know Tiger opened up a little bit last week. But we’ve never had any of the war stories of what he’s actually got up to in his time. Compare that to David Feherty. The TV commentator was recently interviewed by Rolling Stone and gave a completely honest and open interview. It’s amazing he’s still alive let alone presenting on the telly box.
