Coronavirus update

LPGA cancels Asian Swing

As expected, the LPGA has confirmed that they have cancelled two more events in Asia. The Honda LPGA Thailand in Pattaya, Thailand that was scheduled to be played between 20th and 23rd February and the HSBC Women's World Championship in Singapore the following week are both casualties of the Coronavirus scare.

These cancellations follow that of the Blue Bay LPGA, set to take place on Hainan Island, China, from 5th March. Sadly, this has wiped out the entire LPGA Asian Swing that was due to take place during February and March.

In a statement, the LPGA said its decision was reached "due to the continued health concerns and recent advisories in some Asian countries that large-scale events should be cancelled or postponed as a result of the coronavirus."

It is always a difficult decision to cancel events and the LPGA greatly appreciates the understanding and all the efforts made by our title sponsors (Honda and HSBC) as well as IMG to host incredible events for our players," the statement also read. "The health and safety of our players, fans and everyone working on the event is always our highest priority. While we are disappointed that these tournaments will not take place this season, we look forward to returning to Asia soon."

The LPGA tour is in Australia this week with the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open, and following the cancellations, the next event will be the Volvik Founders Cup in Phoenix on 19th March.

The tour will hopefully return for the second Asian Swing in the Autumn with events in China, South Korea, Chinese Taipei and Japan.
