Thomas Pieters to host innovative Belgian Knockout

Strokeplay and matchplay mix

Thomas Pieters is set host a new European Tour event called the Belgian Knockout at Rinkven International Golf Club next year.

The tournament will be an interesting mix of strokeplay and matchplay, with players starting off with 36 holes of strokeplay, which will see the starting field cut to 64.

They will then battle one-on-one over nine holes, with eight players making it through to Sunday, when two players will go head to head in a final nine-hole knockout.

"I think it’s going to be exciting," Pieters said. "We are going to see an innovative new format and it will make it really exciting for people who come along to watch and also for people watching it at home on TV."

We’ll be interested to see how this latest innovation captures the imagination, but it’s great to have Thomas championing it in his native Belgium, and we’re sure Nicki Colsearts won’t be far behind.
