Matt Fitzpatrick wins European Masters play off

He might only be 23 but that hasn't stopped Matt Fitzpatrick racking up another tournament – his fourth – when he prevailed in a play off against Scott Hend in Switzerland.

"Right lads, he hasn't noticed us sneaking up, let him get to the bit where he's about to do his speech and let him have all four barrels..."

Fitz shot a closing -6 round of 64 to end on -14 alongside Australian Scott Hend at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Switzerland.

Hend took a three shot lead into the final round and indeed had an eight-foot putt to win on the second play-off hole but it was not to be. On the third play off hole Hend misjudged his fairway bunker shot and Fitz finished him off

"I'm delighted," said Englishman Fitzpatrick. "It's one that I've always wanted to win. I love playing this golf course. It's always stood out on the schedule.

"We kept our nerve and played really smart all week."

Hend lost the same event in a play-off to Alex Noren last year and will be wondering just what he has to do to bag this tournament.
