The Golf Nurse Climbs the leaderboard

Mel Reid shoots 66 to crack the top 10

While it was a great day for Shanshan Feng after a second successive 67 gave her a two shot lead at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, it was a pretty good day for Carly Booth and Melissa Reid.

Reid shot the low round of the tournament in the second round, her 66 contained six birdies and a fabulous eagle on 18. While she is seven back of the lead, if she can keep playing like that over the weekend expect to see her in the mix come Sunday. Tied seventh, we want to see her climb that leaderboard this weekend.

Carly Booth, our resident golf nurse moved up twenty spots in the second round, shooting a one under 71. It could have been much better as she made 6 birdies during the round, but her attacking play didn’t always pay dividends as she also carded a double and three bogies. Cut out those mistakes and Carly can crack the top ten this week.

Laura Davies continued to defy time again, shooting a second successive 68 for second spot. Crazily she’s doing it with a torn tendon.

“It hurts, but what are you going to do? I have had it for three months now, but didn’t realise it’s as bad as it is.”

Dame Davies’ good play is down to a change in her putting.

“I have gone cross-handed, left-hand-low and it has starting to click in.
“I have been saying all along that that I have been hitting it well tee-to-green and the difference this week is: 27 putts and 31 putts. If I keep putting like I have done for the last two days, I will have a chance.”

Right we’re going to try that next time we play.
