Rumour mill: Justin Rose to move from TaylorMade

But where is he heading?

We first heard the rumour that Justin Rose would be leaving TaylorMade back at this year’s Open in Carnoustie, and the rumours don’t seem to be going away. If anything, they are just getting louder and louder.

Scotland’s Bunkered.com have now published the story, and it really looks like there is substance to the story, as Rose refused to confirm or deny the rumour after his victory at last weekend’s Turkish Airlines Open, where he played and won with a full set of TaylorMade clubs.

TaylorMade continue to recruit a new generation of golfers, not least with their signing of Jon Rahm in 2016, but they also lost Sergio Garcia – another long-term brand ambassador, back in 2016 to Callaway.

“It wasn’t only my decision,” said García at the time. “I spent 15 years with TaylorMade but unfortunately things come to an end.”

Of course, TaylorMade have a very high-profile new-signing within their camp, as no less than Tiger Woods has come on board.

But it will still feel a bit weird if both Sergio and Justin have moved onto pastures new.

Perhaps the fact that ex-TaylorMade CEO Mark King is working with Honma may have a lot to do with Justin’s move.
