Man fights to keep murderer who disposed of body on golf course

Properly locked up for life

A husband whose wife was shot then dismembered and scattered across a golf course is fighting to keep her killer locked up behind bars.

Isabelle Lewis was shot in the head with an air rifle and stabbed several times before her body was mutilated, and her husband, Peter Lewis, fears that her killer, Keith Valentine, could be released this year.

Valentine’s trial at the Old Bailey was held 17 years ago, and some horrific details of the crime emerged during it, as he was sentenced to life imprisonment.

A cross was also carved into her forehead, her head was shaved and some of her teeth had been pulled out.

Her body parts were found either loose or in black plastic bags around a wood at the golf course but some were never recovered.

The jury was told that Lewis’s neighbour, Keith Valentine, cut her body into nine pieces and carried them in plastic sacks to the nearby golf course at New Addington.

Now Peter Lewis, has revealed his wife’s killer could walk the streets again as he is due to face a Parole Board hearing before the end of October.

“We did not bury my wife – we buried the parts, we buried 95% of her", he said.

Mr Lewis revealed that his wife’s body was discovered strewn across Addington Court golf course and was found by golfers playing there, who originally thought they were bits of animals until her headless torso was found.

He says police initially protected him from the true horror of the killing.

“In my mind she was still whole – they didn’t tell me for a long time she was dismembered,” he said. “They didn’t tell me details.”

Valentine denied knowing Mrs Lewis when he was first questioned by police but a bag containing eight knives with serrated edges and the rifle were found in his possession.

The court also heard there were a number of stab wounds to the body and slicing wounds to the head.

Mr Lewis said he had been satisfied with the life term handed down to Valentine by Justice Blofeld but said he was now fighting to ensure “life means life”.

He said: “In June I had a letter from the Probation Service that he was once again coming up for parole. I was told it will be between August and October.

“If the life sentence applies then my sons would not need to know much more [about the death]. But it has been coming out bit by bit and I have had to mention things to them which are a bit sensitive.

“I may not have much longer but it’s never going to leave my sons."

“I would not wish this on anybody – not even my worst enemy. The evidence was enough to make anybody’s stomach turn."

“If they said he would never see daylight again we would never have to think about it again.”

Valentine has been before the Parole Board in the last couple of years but remains in prison.
