How to get a toilet built on a golf course in the green belt

What a palaver!

Is this the future of Golf course toilets?

Golfers at the Wildernesse Golf Club in Kent are having a right struggle to get a toilet built on their golf course. Here’s why.

At the moment there is a dodgy old toilet on the ninth hole, which the club is trying to replace. But it has not been an easy journey to get the new ‘facility’ installed.

Club secretary Andrew Lawrence said: "It is something our members do mention, although men can generally use their discretion out on the course.

"But we have about 150 female members, one of the largest female memberships in Kent, so the portable loo out on the course is not really suitable.”

In the first instance the club applied back in 2013 to Sevenoaks District Council for planning permission for the new unit, but this was turned down.

.The original application was refused because it was too close to the road and because it was deemed an inappropriate development on green belt land.

The council also said it was "not unreasonable" for golfers to make the 400-yard dash back to the clubhouse for a quick slash. They clearly have no idea about the notion of slow play!

Plans for the new toilet are now being drawn up, and maybe sometime before 2020 they will have their new toilets operational. Until then, it’s take to the undergrowth time.

Head for the undergrowth if caught short!

What a palaver!
