Gleneagles change Jamie Donaldson shot marker

Because everyone's having a go!

To mark Jamie Donaldson’s 146-yard wedge to within a foot of the flag, the Welshman was invited to unveil a commemorative plaque on the 15th fairway of the PGA Centenary Course.

But now Gleneagles have been forced to relocate the marker celebrating his pinpoint pitch which Donaldson described as “the shot of my life" because visiting golf groups can’t resist trying to re-live the Welshman’s famous strike which saw off Team USA.

Gary Silcock, Gleneagles’ Director of Golf, said: “The 2014 Ryder Cup was a phenomenal experience and an event that’s still being celebrated by the Gleneagles team and our visitors – including thousands of golfers from all over the world who enjoy coming to play in the footsteps of the many legends who’ve graced the PGA’s fairways.

“Donaldson’s famous two shots – his remarkable 293 yard drive followed by an even better 146 yard shot to the pin – captured the world’s imagination and naturally many golfers are eager to see if they can recreate his perfect pitching wedge shot.

“This enthusiasm was amazing to see but resulted in a big area of divots in the centre of the fairway, which was spoiling the golfing experience for our guests.

“We’ve therefore relocated the commemorative plaque to the tee – in true celebration of Donaldson’s achievement that day and to maintain the fairway in the pristine condition he experienced.”
