Fred Couples out of The Masters

Smallest field now since 2002

56-year old Fred Couples, the 1992 Masters winnner, has pulled out of this week's Masters, citing "acute back problems." This will be the first time he has missed the event since 1994.

This means that The Masters which will now feature the fewest number of players since 2002. There are just 89 players left in the field for the year's first major.

Jim Furyk is out with a wrist injury, Jose Maria Olazabal has rheumaticism, Tiger Woods is still recovering from back surgery and Bae Sang-moon is doing his military service in Korea. And now Freddie won't be coming to the party.
