First worldwide Crazy Golf Tournament launched

By Plonk Golf

Talented set designer and ex pub manager, Elliot Scott has rejuvenated the campy seaside classic ‘sport’ of Crazy Golf and is now launching an even more unexpected world tour.

Crazy golf isn’t the first traditional pastime that’s been injected with millennial irony-tinged joy in recent years, in fact it would be easier to list those that haven’t seen a renaissance of interest.

Plonk Golf is known for creating an over-the-top and often quite literally glowing version of this classic game, with incredible designs, artwork and creativity bringing the courses and surroundings to life. Currently based in London with five permanent locations, and newly opened courses in Brighton and Berlin, Plonk Golf is now launching the first ever world-wide crazy golf tournament.

The team has bought and renovated an original 1960s funfair dodgems hall, fitting it with a bar, a live music performance area, and a genuinely crazy, golf course. The entire outfit can be packed up and transported, fun fair-style, across the country. This caravanning course is how the team intend fulfil their goal of finding the world’s greatest and inevitably craziest, golfers.

Having spent a decade in set design and cinematic arts departments, founder Elliot Scott has ample experience in turning ideas into realities. And the courses themselves are a testament to his team’s imagination. Awash with colour, lights, sound effects and endless day-glow; it’s crazy golf, but not as we know it. The company has gone from strength to strength, adding newer and larger locations expanding out of London (into Brighton) and beyond the UK (to Berlin). But nothing like a crazy golf tour has ever been attempted before (by anyone).

With nine locations are already confirmed, including five music festivals, the team is launching a crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo to raise funds to get the big rigs required to transport the course, and to keep the tour moving beyond the current dates. The tournament’s grand finale will be held in London; first prize is a trip for the winning team to play mini golf at Plonk’s new course in Berlin. There will be various big music festival tickets for the regional runners-up.

“Plonk has made a big difference to the pubs where we have permanent Crazy Golf courses, helping them attract and retain new customers. As a former pub manager myself I know how difficult that can be, and I hope the Crazy Golf Tour will give a real boost to the venues we visit. By bringing something new and exciting to the pub venues across the UK, I hope we can attract new customers – showing them what pubs have to offer and how much fun Crazy Golf can be!” said Plonk founder Elliott Scott.
