Billy Foster rumoured to take Rory McIlroy's bag

After split from Lee Westwood

Rory McIlroy is rumoured to be thinking of working with Billy Foster after his recent split from Lee Westwood.

Westwood won the Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City on Sunday, but it was with his partner Helen Storey on the bag, rather than Foster, after they parted company after the Turkish Airlines Open.

McIlroy's current caddie is his best friend Harry Diamond, and he will be on McIlroy’s bag at this week’s DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. But there is speculation that Rory may be tempted to go for the experience that Foster would offer, at a time when he is still struggling to find his best form.

Foster has worked for Seve Ballesteros, Darren Clarke Sergio Garcia and even, albeit briefly, for Tiger Woods. He split from Westwood as Westwood wanted to do everything his own way, including doing his own yardages.

"Lee wanted to work differently to everything we had ever done, which basically meant me just carrying the bag," Foster said.

"I struggled to adapt to that as a caddie, and it created a bit of an uncomfortable atmosphere on the course. Ultimately, it was no good for Lee and not fair on me.”

We have to see how much legs this rumour has, but it is sure to come up in Rory’s pre-tournament press conference in Abu Dhabi.
