The Porsche European Open

The Golf Spiv searches for value

The dust has settled on The Open Championship and now it’s back to basics. The Porsche European Open at Green Eagle Golf Course in Hamburg will give many an opportunity for the title as many top names are reflecting on their Open Championship. It gives a chance to look at some lesser known players at great prices.

Charl Schwartzel, Patrick Reed and Jimmy Walker are the top names at this event. Other than that, this one is wide open with some great prices. With that in mind, here is who is the Spiv is going for.

Richie Ramsay 33/1 BetVictor:

What an Open Championship this man had. His finished in a tie for 6th place and ended the tournament as the highest placed Scotsman. Missed the cut at this one last year, but that is no reason to ignore Ramsey. It’s a new course, but there is also some new found confidence after The Open and his recent results.

Jordan Smith 40/1 Ladbrokes:

So far in 2017, Smith hasn’t missed a single cut. It has been an impressive first season on the European Tour and he is edging closer to competing for some big wins. This one could be it. Three top 10 finishes show he is close, but it is his consistency that has really caught my eye.

Chase Koepka 80/1 Betfred:

Just like his brother, Chase is grinding it out on the Challenge Tour. And just like his brother, he is doing great. He finished in a tie for second at the Italian Challenge in his last event and currently finds himself in ninth position on the Road to Oman. Can he take this form onto the European Tour? At 80/1 he is well worth an Each Way.

Stuart Manley 300/1 PaddyPower:

For a moment, Manley was the story of The Open Championship. He has proven that he can compete with the big boys on the biggest stage. However, he still missed the cut following a tough second day. That said, he can still produce the goods and at this price, I’m tempted. He will either miss the cut or be up there.
