Rory's new Nike Lunar Control 4 Golf Shoes
Make their debut this week
Words: Daniel Owen
When GolfPunk started, golf shoes were something you just put on your feet. Now they’e almost as anticipated as a new driver. These new Nike’s have been gossiped about for months and now they’re finally here.
The new Nike Lunar Control 4 is definitely a shoe that will appeal to you sneaker heads out there. They call it white and bright crimson, but this could easily be Air Max 90 Infrared, one of the most celebrated sneaker colour schemes of all time. It also features the same swoosh positioning as the most recent Nike Mercurial Football boots. And we love that sneaky little’ Just Do It’ hiding behind the laces. It’s safe to say these are not your dads golf shoes.
“I have been looking forward to wearing this shoe for quite some time. It’s a design I’ve been involved with ever since my first year with Nike,” says McIlroy, who will wear the Nike Lunar Control 4 at the DP World Championships. “They give me the confidence needed to maximise power in my swing with reliable control on the ground, especially off the tee.”
At more than 120 MPH, Rory McIlroy’s golf swing is one of the most powerful on the professional tour. His ability to attack the ball with velocity while maintaining control over his swing arc requires strength and a strong base. When it all comes together, McIlroy declares, he’s able to “swing within himself.”
This insight played a major role in the development of the Nike Lunar Control 4, which is designed to provide that ultimate base.
Like other Nike Golf designs, the Nike Lunar Control 4 leverages Nike innovations, developed across a variety of sport platforms, to meet McIlroy’s needs.Dynamic Nike Flywire technology provides lateral support in the midfoot, while a new, robust external heel counter helps lock the foot in place through McIlroy’s swing. The same high-performance outsole and Nike Lunarlon midsole from the Nike Lunar Control 3 continues to offer superior traction and cushioning.
